Beach Cleanups
Trash-Counter: 132.7 kg collected
7 April 2026
Over the Easter weekend, we had a busy but incredibly meaningful few days as we headed out to Pointe aux Poudres for a beach cleanup. Known for its natural beauty, this stretch of coastline should be one of the island’s pristine gems. However, what we encountered was a stark reminder of the growing impact of human activity on our environment. The beach was scattered with washed-up debris brought in by the ocean, alongside litter that had been carelessly left behind.
Despite the initial disappointment, our team got to work with determination and purpose. As the cleanup progressed, it became clear just how much waste had accumulated. By the end of the effort, we had collected a total of 32 kilograms of trash. The items ranged from plastic bottles and bottle caps to crates, fishing nets, ropes, and even discarded slippers. Each piece told its own story, reflecting both marine pollution and the everyday habits that contribute to it.
What stood out most was not just the quantity, but the variety of waste found on such a beautiful beach. It was both fascinating and troubling to see how far some of these items must have travelled, while others were clearly left behind without a second thought. It highlights the dual challenge we face: ocean-borne pollution and local responsibility.
Even so, the cleanup was a success in every sense. Not only did we remove a significant amount of debris, but we also helped restore a part of the coastline to its natural state. Efforts like these go beyond just collecting trash, they raise awareness, inspire change, and remind us all of the role we play in protecting our marine and coastal environments.
Experiences like this reinforce why we do what we do. Protecting our oceans and beaches is not just a responsibility, but a necessity, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the same natural beauty that we are so fortunate to have today.”
